The business of real estate is unpredictable and fluid. Every day that you go out to show properties, have open houses, negotiate terms or meet with clients you can never know exactly how your day will turn out. Every single day is different and keeps you on your toes. Sometimes you are curled over in laughter during a rekindled meeting with an old friend from the past. Sometimes you have 15 places to be and then someone calls and requires you immediately. Daily you are tasked with how to serve your client in the best way possible while dealing with stone-wall third parties. Each day is a challenge on its own and I love it. I have been in and around this business for years and I am still surprised each week by the situations (both frustrating and funny as heck) that I run into as a real estate agent. I thought I’d share some of the funny moments to brighten your day on a weekly or monthly basis.
Adventures in Real Estate: The Friendly Neighbor
I was tasked to show some homes over a weekend to a great client. After finding a few properties that matched their criteria, I scheduled showings and we planned to meet at the first house. I arrived early, looked around the neighborhood and parked. The house that we were going to be looking at was freshly painted and exactly how the MLS showed it to be. My clients arrived and we walked through. It was obviously a home that had been recently flipped by the seller. The MLS stated that it was a three bedroom home, however after walking through, turned out to be a one bedroom home because there were no closets or closing doors. After scratching our heads, we moved outside for an exterior inspection. As the buyers took a look around, the neighbor came out and he and I started up a polite conversation.
“The neighborhood is quiet and nice. I’ve been here for 63 years. They have done a whole lot to the house you’re showing. The neighbors will help you if you need anything. Just ask.” He said.
It was great to hear, especially for any potential buyers. I mentioned how shiny and new the air conditioner was. His response was even, calm and immediate.
“Yeah, someone stole it a couple weeks ago and they just replaced it. Looks nice.” He said.
I politely thanked the man for letting me know about the neighborhood and wished him the best with getting great new neighbors and we left.
I think we will keep searching.
