Hydrant Parties

You have never quite experienced anything so joyous, rowdy and refreshing as a hydrant party. It is that time again in the Council Bluffs area for weekly hydrant parties. They are free and exciting especially for little ones because of fire trucks that are always present. (And they usually hand out free frozen treats)

The hydrant parties usually serve multiple purposes that most may not think about.

1.) They promote a sense of community that strengthens local neighborhoods.

2.) The cool water brings kids and parents out of their homes for fresh air and exercise.

3.) Firefighters and kids can be introduced in a fun and interactive way since most of the time, the kids can hop on the firetruck for a quick tour.

4.) The hydrant valves and covers get exercised so they can easily be opened in an emergency if there is a fire nearby.
